Home Working

Home Working normally applies to self employed, outworkers or teleworkers. Most people falling into the self employed category and either provide a product or service from home would be consultants, free-lance, data workers, etc. The second category is outworkers, who are usually skilled piece-workers and contract packers who are paid to carry out a certain amount of work at their home. Finally teleworkers, using technology, are installed at home by their employers to enable them to do their job from home and keep in touch with other teleworkers.

All three of these categories need to be able to get easy access to the basic services available to those of us in an office, without the restriction of having to actually be in the office. These services include uninterrupted IT and Telecom support, an environment where they can be sure of not being interrupted by family life, stationary supplies, Office type furniture, and faxing, FedEx and VC availability.

Previously this was a challenge, however, with the emergence of new telecom and IT capabilities there is little difference between the IT service in the office and at home. With the remote security and offsite server hosting this issue has also been overcome and bespoke separate areas have been created in private dwellings to provide an office away from the office.

The only remaining challenge is the human interaction part. It is important for us to interact on a business level with those who perform a similar task as us and there is also a safety element of not bringing unknown customers to our home. Previously the only answer to this was to meet in a coffee shop however there are now office providers all over the world who are providing a solution for this on short term, medium term and long term basis.
